Standard 4R lab print
Resize a Photo to 4 × 6 Inch (1200 × 1800 px)
4 × 6 inch is the default photo print of every lab on earth | the 4R preset in our resizer hits it in one click.
Open the MM resizerUse the built-in 4R preset (102 × 152 mm @ 300 DPI) | it is the exact 4 × 6 inch lab standard.
A 4 × 6 print at 300 DPI is exactly 1200 × 1800 pixels. Phone photos are usually 4000 × 3000 (4:3), so labs crop the top and bottom to force the 3:2 paper | faces and horizons get chopped without warning.
Cropping first on your own terms fixes that: the resizer crops to the true 3:2 aspect with focus sliders, scales to 1200 × 1800 and stamps 300 DPI metadata, so the lab prints your framing, not its own guess.
The one-click 4R preset (102 × 152 mm) encodes the same size in millimetres for print drivers that think in metric.
What resolution do I need for a good 4 × 6 print?
1200 × 1800 px (300 DPI) is the gold standard. 800 × 1200 (200 DPI) still prints acceptably; below that edges go soft.
Why does my 4 × 6 print come out cropped?
Because the lab forces your file into a 3:2 ratio. Pre-crop to 4 × 6 with focus control and nothing important gets chopped.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Every pixel is processed by JavaScript inside your own browser tab | nothing is sent to a server, stored or logged, which matters when the file is an ID photo or signature.
