US passport and visa spec

Resize a Photo to 2 × 2 Inch (600 × 600 px)

The US passport photo is a strict square: 2 × 2 inches, printed at 300 DPI, which means exactly 600 × 600 pixels. Anything else bounces.

Open the MM resizer
Enter 50.8 × 50.8 mm at 300 DPI | that is exactly 2 × 2 inch, 600 × 600 pixels.

The US Department of State rejects photos that are even slightly off spec: the frame must be 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), the head must measure 1 to 1 3/8 inches from chin to crown, and the background must be plain white. Digital submissions want a 600 × 600 pixel square JPEG under 240 KB.

Our millimetre resizer does the maths honestly: type 50.8 × 50.8 mm at 300 DPI and it crops to a true square with focus sliders, scales to exactly 600 × 600 px and stamps real DPI metadata into the file, so print shops and online portals both read the physical size correctly.

Everything runs on your device | your face data never touches a server, which no photo booth kiosk can promise.

What is 2 × 2 inch in pixels?
At the print standard of 300 DPI, 2 × 2 inch is exactly 600 × 600 pixels. At 96 DPI (screen) it would be 192 × 192, so always use 300 DPI for passport and visa photos.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Every pixel is processed by JavaScript inside your own browser tab | nothing is sent to a server, stored or logged, which matters when the file is an ID photo or signature.
Does this work on my phone?
Yes. The tool is fully responsive and touch friendly, and the whole conversion runs in the mobile browser itself | no app install.
