How to Remove Pages From a PDF

7 min read · Updated 2026-10-07 · PdfPixel

Deleting a page from a PDF sounds like a two-second job, and in a browser tab it is — as long as the tool shows you the actual pages before it removes anything. Guessing page numbers on a document you cannot see is how people delete the wrong invoice.

This guide covers both ways: marking pages visually on a page board, and typing ranges when you already know exactly what to cut. It also covers the case people hit most often — a scan with twenty blank pages that need to go in one pass.

First, keep a copy

Page removal is destructive in the sense that the output is a new file with fewer pages — the original is never modified, but it is easy to lose track of which version you sent to whom. Save the original, work on a copy, and give the result a clear file name like quotation-final-v2.pdf. Every half-hour you spend chasing 'the version without the appendix' is a half-hour the naming could have saved.

Method 1: mark the pages visually

This is the safest route — you see every page before anything is removed:

Method 2: type the ranges

When you know the document structure — 'cut pages 2, 5 and everything from 7 to 9' — typing is far quicker than clicking through a hundred thumbnails. The same tool accepts a range string and marks the matching pages on the board for you, so you still get a visual check before deleting.

Removing blank pages in bulk

Scanned batches — bank statements, signed contracts, printouts from a feeder scanner — are full of blank pages. Clicking each one is slow and error-prone, so PdfPixel ships a separate detector that reads each page's content stream and counts the drawing operators instead of guessing from the thumbnail.

If a page contains no visible marks it is flagged; you can leave the flagged pages marked for deletion, or select only the strictly empty ones and keep anything with a stray signature line.

Remove, split or extract — which do you actually need?

These three words get used interchangeably, but they produce different files:

Three things people forget after deleting pages

The page count changed, so anything that referred to the old numbering is now wrong. Check these before you send the file:

Frequently asked questions

Can I undo a deletion after saving?
Not inside the tool — the output is a new file. But your original was never touched, so nothing is truly lost: just work from the original again with a different selection.
Can I remove the same pages from several PDFs at once?
Not in one pass today. The fastest reliable approach is to process them one by one, or merge the files first if the same page numbers apply to all of them, then remove once.
Will deleting pages reduce the file size?
Usually, yes — roughly in proportion to the pages removed, especially when those pages were image-heavy scans. If the file barely shrinks, the removed pages were text-only and tiny compared with the rest.
What is the 'Last page' button for?
Scans frequently end with a blank or cover sheet, and some forms have a trailing instructions page. 'Last page' marks the final page in one tap so you can check it in the preview and delete it without hunting through thumbnails.
