PDF to Excel Converter Free: Tables Into Editable Sheets, No Upload
Statements, price lists, mark sheets, inventory pages: half the PDFs in an office are tables someone will retype by hand. Retyping is slow and introduces exactly the kind of error that survives until an audit.
PDF to Excel reads the table structure out of the page and writes real cells, columns and rows, in your browser, with no file ever leaving your machine.
How the conversion works
A PDF stores text with coordinates, not tables. The converter groups characters into cells by their alignment, detects column boundaries from consistent spacing and rules, and rebuilds the grid as a spreadsheet. Numbers stay numbers, so SUM works on arrival.
Born-digital PDFs, the kind exported from accounting software, convert almost perfectly. Scanned tables are images; run OCR first or use Extract Tables on the recognised text.
Step by step
- Open PDF to Excel and add the file; structure detection runs locally.
- Review the page preview and start the conversion; each detected table becomes a sheet region.
- Download the .xlsx and open it in Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets.
- Spot-check a column of figures against the original before you build formulas on top.
When to use Extract Tables instead
If you only need the data and not the workbook, Extract Tables goes straight to CSV, which imports into anything including pandas and Sheets. Use PDF to Excel when formatting, multiple tables per page or multi-page table continuation matter.
- Multi-page tables keep row order page by page.
Merged header cells may arrive split; a two-minute fix in Excel.
Currency symbols and thousand separators are preserved as text; clean with one pass of Find and Replace if you need pure numbers.
Nothing is uploaded, so client data and salary sheets stay private.
