IBPS and Bank Exam Photo Size: 20-50 KB Window, Done Once (Free)
Banking exams share an imaging culture: a 20 to 50 KB photo window, centimetre framing around 4.5 x 3.5 cm, and a signature band near 10-20 KB. IBPS, SBI and most state banks sit inside those lines.
The craft is landing mid-window, because bank portals re-encode uploads and edge files drift out of band after their pass.
The working window
Photo around 4.5 x 3.5 cm at 20-50 KB in JPG, plain light background, face centred. Signature near 4 x 1.5 cm at 10-20 KB in dark ink.
- Individual bank notices vary slightly; the compressor target window is what the portal validates.
Recent IBPS and SBI cycles have held these bands, which is why the ladder presets exist.
Landing mid-window on purpose
- Open the 20-50 KB compressor preset with your cropped photo.
- The encoder searches quality to land inside the window and reports the achieved size.
- Aim for 30-40 KB so portal re-encoding keeps you in band.
- Repeat for the signature at its own band, then download both.
Why bank portals re-encode
Verification pipelines normalise uploads to one format and weight for reviewer queues; your file is not the file a reviewer sees. Mid-band originals survive that second compression.
Files at 49 KB can cross 50 after their pass; files at 21 KB can fall under 20.
Background and framing checks
Bank verification compares the upload against later in-person photo ID; busy backgrounds and heavy filters raise queries even when size passes.
Plain wall, even light, neutral expression, no cap or scarf unless religiously required with the face fully visible.
