Exam Signature Size Guide: 10-20 KB, Clean Strokes, Every Portal (Free)
Signatures get less attention than photos and cause just as many rejections. The bands are tight, usually 10 to 20 KB, and the failure mode is invisible on your screen: strokes that dissolve when the portal thumbnails your sign.
This guide covers the common bands, how to capture ink cleanly, and the resize path that keeps every stroke.
Common bands across portals
SSC signatures sit at 10-20 KB in 4 x 2 or 6 x 2 cm; UPSC uses 20-100 KB at 350-500 px wide; bank and state exams cluster around 10-50 KB with centimetre framing.
- When two numbers conflict, the current notice wins; presets in the tool follow the working bands.
Weight floors exist here too: a 4 KB signature reads as a smudge to a verifier.
Capturing ink that survives compression
Sign with a dark pen on plain white paper, photograph in even light without shadow, and crop tight to the strokes with a small white margin.
Grey paper backgrounds eat contrast budget; lift the background to white before resizing so compression spends on strokes, not noise.
Resize path
- Open Resize Signature and add the cropped scan.
- Pick the preset for your portal or set cm and KB manually.
- Preview at actual size; every stroke should stay continuous.
- Download; the process never uploads your signature.
Thick beats stylish
At 10-20 KB there is no budget for hairline flourishes. A slightly thicker, simpler sign reads better than an ornate one that fragments.
If your natural sign is thin, press firmer rather than editing strokes after capture.
